Malhar 2009

Malhar 2009 - Sports and Environmental Education Festival
31st July - 1st August 2009

GCSD in collaboration with Jo's Events welcomes you to the 'MALHAR 2009 - Sports and Environmental Education' programme for children in Bangalore.

This rainy season we see Malhar 2009 as a great opportunity for school children in Bangalore to ‘Learn’ as well as ‘Play’.

GCSD creates a platform for children, youth, men and women motivated to bring a positive change at a personal, social and ecological level in their individual environment and their respective society for the progress of humanity. The growing needs of population and urbanization have generated an urgent need to evolve innovative methods for holding up of ground water resources through appropriate recharge activities. With the gradual depletion of groundwater and altered climatic conditions, Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) is becoming the need of the hour. It is important to raise the awareness on this issue to the children, who are going to lead the future world, in order to sustain themselves. We intend to educate students on how to make their homes self-sufficient in water by employing rainwater - harvesting techniques, and emphasizing the need for it.

GCSD will facilitate to empower children to acquire knowledge on rainwater harvesting as well as build up the spirit of continuous self-improvement through sports. This will be a platform for school children to showcase their talent in football as well as acquire knowledge on RWH.

For all the schools that register for the five-a-side football knock out tournament scheduled from 31st July - 1st August 2009, GCSD will organize an informative session on Rain Water Harvesting anytime from 15th June – 31st July 2009, for children (6th-10th Std) at each school, prior to the main event and if need be till the end of August 2009.

This event will be hosted at Living Hope Children’s Home, Veernapalya, R.T. Nagar from 31st July -1st August 2009.
