The Earth’s Climate has changed throughout history but recent Climate Change is alarming. Since the Industrial Revolution, human activities have added to the heat-trapping of the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The burning of fossil fuels and biomass has also resulted in emissions of aerosols that absorb and emit heat, and reflect light.
The addition of greenhouse gases and aerosols has changed the composition of the atmosphere. The changes in the atmosphere have likely influenced temperature, precipitation, storms and sea level. These features of the climate also vary naturally, so determining what fraction of climate changes are due to natural variability versus human activities is challenging. Nevertheless it is time to rethink our model of Development and put brakes on the speeded Climate Change.
GCSD works in India and globally to raise awareness on this global crisis. To engage children and youth in dialogue and to work on strategies for mitigation and adaptation.
In our journey since the fourth International Conference on Environmental Education (ICEE) held at Ahemdabad, India in November 2007, GCSD has brought together individuals and representatives from various youth and environment related networks to build an inter-generational alliance for the same.
We organised in Bangalore a workshop on ‘Intergenerational Partnerships for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation’ from 22nd to 25th April 2008. And the first Indian Youth Summit on Climate Change in Hyderabad from 7th – 10th August 2008.
